APEDB makes significant strides in U.S.-Andhra Educational Collaboration.
On Thursday, the Chief Minister met with Dr. Peter Garland, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) at the Secretariat. It was decided a mega-university from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will be established in Amaravati in the near future.
A Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed between Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) and Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB), and will promote a strategic alliance and partnerships between Pennsylvania University and the Universities in Andhra Pradesh.
He met with the high-level delegation led by Hon’ble Envoy Kanika Choudhary, including Hon’ble Dr. Timothy S. Moerland, Provost, Vice President, state Official & Education Secretary of Academic Affairs at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Dr. Suhas Pednekar, Principal of Ramnarain Ruia College. The delegates expressed a keen interest to also participate in the pre-university programmes, in student counselling, advising and enrollment, faculty and student exchange programmes and professional development for teachers and administration.
At the beginning of the meeting, they showed the Chief Minister a video message by Lt. Governer of Pennsylvania, Mike Stack, expressing his gratitude and eagerness to collaborate with the state of Andhra Pradesh. Jasthi Krishna Kishore, CEO of Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board, said that they are also keen to explore opportunities in food processing, electronics and information technology. The Chief Minister addressed the meeting, explaining in brief, the various milestones achieved in education, software skills and entrepreneurship. He said that India offers a brilliant demographic dividend, and AP boasts of a growing dynamic and skilled youth.
“English and Mathematics are our core strengths, and the IT industry has huge scope in our state”, he said. He told Dr. Garland that he looks forward to a clear roadmap that plans the way forward and quick implementation. Dr. Garland responded enthusiastically saying, “Your passion and dynamism is infectious, and I am even more excited than I was to collaborate with you.” He said that he appreciated the efforts of Ms. Choudhary, for pursuing this endeavour relentlessly, and looks forward to the results. Minister of Human Resources Development Ganta Srinivasa Rao was also present in the meeting, among other officials.
