Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board and Decathlon sign a memorandum of association for cooperation in sports, retail and infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh
The Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Decathlon. Decathlon extensively believes in 'Make In India' and it is pertinent to note that approximately 40% of Decathlon products are sourced from Indian manufacturers.
With this Memorandum of Understanding, Decathlon, a major French designer, manufacturer and retailer of sporting goods will explore opportunities for establishing sports stores in Vijayawada, Vishakhapatnam and Amaravati.
The APEDB, a single point of contact for trade, investments and partnerships in the state of Andhra Pradesh will seamlessly facilitate Decathlon’s entry into Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh is an attractive destination for major sports retailers as an increasing fitness conscious urban Indian desires for quality sporting infrastructure, range of equipment and sports stores.
Decathlon is well-positioned to take advantage of India’s renewed enthusiasm towards sports, fitness, adventure and lifestyle.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has selected Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Amaravati as future sports cities and will launch ten new sports academies in various cities in Andhra Pradesh.
The government aims to complete a multi-sports complex in Vishakhapatnam spanning 79 acres in 2018.
Health, well-being and happiness are thrust areas for the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Hon’ble Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu aims to develop Amaravati as India’s first planned sports city.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. J. Krishna Kishore, Chief Executive Officer, Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board commented “Sport is increasing becoming accessible to a larger section of urban India and the fitness conscious urban Indian desires for quality sporting infrastructure, quality equipment and access to sports retailers. We are delighted that Decathlon will increase its presence in Andhra Pradesh by establishing sports stores in Vijayawada, Vishakhapatnam and Amaravati”.
“Andhra Pradesh is building sports infrastructure at an accelerated pace and Amaravati will be India’s first planned city developed for sports and fitness with sports training academies, infrastructure facilities, quality playing turfs and coaching options” he added”.
Sports and fitness are thrust areas for Andhra Pradesh and interest from global sporting majors like Decathlon will enhance the sporting ecosystem that the state intends to scale up.
